Program Details
Weekly Themes
Each week, the activities will concentrate on a specific theme to focus the learning and tie all the activities together. There are 9 themes: Jungle, Dinosaurs, Fairytales, Sea, Magic, Mystery, Heroes, Space and Olympics
Academic Curriculum
Alpha’s Discovery Club offers a balance between learning and fun. Children will spend approximately 90 minutes per day focused on reading, writing, spelling and mathematics. Children will be working at their grade level according to Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines.
Weekly Field Trips
Each week, children will go on one full-day field trip or two half day field trips. The field trips will coincide with the weekly themes and include the following:
Metro Toronto Zoo, Casa Loma, Ontario Place, Blue Jays Game, Royal Ontario Museum, Wild Water Kingdom, Ontario Science Centre, Provincial Park Conservation Areas, Local Swimming Pools, Local Fire Station, Movie Theatre
Daily Workshops
Children will spend the majority of their non-field trip days participating in Drama, Sports, Science and Art/Craft workshops. Children will be exposed to and learn new sports, participate in the drama adventure of the day and make creative art/craft projects. In addition to daily workshops, the children will learn and play co-operative games that focus on building social skills and co-operation.
Staff
Alpha’s Discovery Club summer camp is unique, not only because of the weekly adventure themes, but because of its educated and enthusiastic staff. Camp Leaders are chosen based on their ability to work effectively with children of different ages and their commitment to making children their career focus. Our camp leaders have experience working with and leading children at our facility every day.
The ratio of Camp Leaders to children is 10:1 which allows children to receive more one-on-one attention. Field trip ratios are increased based on the age of the children and venue.
What’s Included?
The cost of the camp program covers all activities, including admission for field trips. Children are expected to bring their own snacks, drinks and lunch (no nuts allowed) every day. An optional pizza lunch program will be provided on Fridays at an additional cost.
Parents will receive tax receipts that can be used for 2008 tax returns.
